The latest buzz in the blogosphere has to do with cartoons that were published in a Danish newspaper. The cartoons depicted the Muslim prophet Mohammed in various situations (see them at Human Events Online). One, apparently the most offensive to Muslims and Islamists (yes, there is a difference), showed Mohammed wearing a turban shaped like a bomb.
The result? You guessed it: The Muslims have gotten their turbans all up in knots over a few cartoons. Bloody WAAAAA!
From the London Telegraph:
A leading Islamic cleric called for an "international day of anger" today over publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, and a Danish activist predicted that deadly violence could break out in Europe "at any minute".
A "day of anger?". Cartoonihad, anyone?
Anger over what, pray tell? Well, from what I hear, it is illegal under Islamic law to draw caricatures of Mohammed. Some would say that it prevents idolatry. I say it prevents the unknowing from seeing the real (ahem) prophet. You know, the pedophile, rapist, torturer, and murderer. But, who am I to tell? And it's not like they really pay attention to their own laws when it comes to mass-murdering innocent people (including fellow Muslims).
So, let's dispense with the "illegal" angle. Let's just cut to the brass tacks. The Muslims are, how would the Left say it? Offended. Offended and angry. Angry enough to subtlely threaten deadly violence. So what else is new, Achmed? We non-Muslims go about our daily lives wondering when and where the next act of mass-violence-in-the-name-of-Mohammed will occur. This new threat is as scary as the last.
Sorry... got off topic.
Numerous media outlets showed solidarity with the Danish papers and symbolically published the cartoons, anyway. In the same vein, the American MSM was presented with a ripe opportunity to take a stand for Freedom of Speech. They failed.
Ask any journalist, and you will hear that Freedom of Speech means that sometimes what is printed (or drawn) is going to offend someone. They know this very well. Otherwise, we would not see tasteless political cartoons that use American soldiers as the centerpiece. We wouldn't hear Ted Turner calling Catholics Jesus Freaks. There would not be Christianity-slandering television shows like Book of Daniel, or artwork showing Mary covered in elephant dung and a crucifix submerged in urine. These samples are only where "acceptable" art/speech would offend Christians. I didn't even touch anti-Semetism. Yet, these are all okie-dokie with today's media.
But when it comes to possibly offending Muslims, CNN cannot go there. Same thing at the LA Times, Washington Post, and Time Magazine. From CNN:
CNN has chosen to not show the cartoons in respect for Islam.
Respect, huh? They go out of their way to insult soldiers, Christians, Republicans, and America. But they "respect" Islam so much that they wouldn't dare publish the cartoons.
Can you say "pissing-their-pants fear"? They are so tightly curled into their fetal positions that they are in danger of crushing themselves.
These powerhouses of misinformation, who all-too-often use Freedom of Speech as a crutch, have clearly demonstrated that they have no clue what it means.
And they hide their true fear behind the (very thin) veil of "religious respect". What a bunch of candy-assed pansies.
